
Chronic Back Pain
Chronic back pain is defined as discomfort in the lumbar (lower) or thoracic (mid) spine that persists for 12 weeks or longer, even after an initial injury or underlying cause has been treated. It often arises from mechanical issues (muscle or ligament strain), degenerative changes (disc degeneration, osteoarthritis), structural problems (herniated discs, spinal stenosis), or inflammatory conditions (ankylosing spondylitis).
Symptoms
Deep, aching or burning sensation in the lower or mid‐back
Stiffness and reduced range of motion, especially after inactivity
Muscle spasms or tightness around the spine
Pain that radiates into the buttocks, hips, or down the legs (sciatica)
Worsening pain with prolonged sitting, standing, or bending
